Freeport High Field


After a decade of discussion and 3 ballot rejections by voters, a new $4.8 million complex featuring an eight-lane track and an athletic field for lacrosse, field hockey and football was approved. The project was funded by $2.3 million in donations raised by Tri-Town Track and Field, a citizen group supporting the project. The donation includes a $1.3 million pledge from the Nike Corporation. The school district was responsible for the remaining $2.1 million. The field turf utilizes the more expensive Nike Grind instead of crumb rubber, the most common type of artificial field surface.
