KITTANNING, PA., Apr. 27 – Allegheny Mineral’s Worthington plant recently completed a project in Penn Township, Butler County for Mountain Gathering LLC, which is a subsidiary of XTO Energy, a gas and drilling company in Wexford, which in turn is a subsidiary of Exxon Mobil.

The project required over 35,000 tons of stone for a pad which will be used in the construction of a cryogenic natural gas processing plant. Cryogenic processes are commonly used to extract natural gas liquids (NGLs) from natural gas. Basically, the cryogenic processes consist of dropping the temperature of the gas stream to around -120 degrees Fahrenheit. This rapid temperature drop condenses ethane and other hydrocarbons in the gas stream, while maintaining methane in gaseous form. This process allows for the recovery of about 90 to 95 percent of the ethane originally in the gas stream.

Bubba Willis, site superintendent for Mountain Gathering, was very happy with the aggregate supplied by Allegheny Mineral’s Worthington plant. Additionally, he appreciated the service, support and product availability that was provided throughout the duration of the project.
