SLIPPERY ROCK PLANT WINS SAFETY AWARD

KITTANNING, PA., May 25 – Allegheny Mineral’s Slippery Rock Plant has won the prestigious Joseph A. Holmes Safety Association 2008 Safety Award. The annual award program recognizes achievement of outstanding safety records among America’s mineral extractive industries. This program is sponsored by the Joseph A Holmes Safety Association whose objectives are to prevent fatalities and injuries and to improve health and safety among officials and employees in all phases of mining. These objectives guide and inspire all of the Association’s activities and include participation from the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), labor, mining companies, and suppliers.

In 2008, Slippery Rock Quarry employees worked a combined 71,274 hours with 0 lost time accidents.

The award was presented by Joseph A. Sbaffoni, Director, PA DEP, Bureau of Deep Mine Safety. Allegheny Mineral’s Superintendent Dave Bowser and Plant Foreman Tom Sanderson accepted the award on behalf of all the quarry’s employees.
